Why? Well, of course I love helping children stay healthy, supporting their parents, and watching them both grow through time.<\/p>\n<p>But between you and me \u2013 it\u2019s all the fun and jokes with the kiddos that makes me smile on the way to work each day!<\/p>\n<p>Here are some examples:<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-right: 40px; margin-left: 40px; margin-bottom: 10px;\">My patient, a 4-year-old boy, said to me, \u201cI have a sister and a brother. And another brother named Rusty.\u201d His mom looked at him and said, \u201cRusty is a dog.\u201d The boy said, very seriously, \u201cHe\u2019s my brother, Mom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-right: 40px; margin-left: 40px; margin-bottom: 10px;\">During a well-child visit, the newborn baby was crying a lot. Her big brother \u2013 a 3-year-old boy \u2013 pulled on my sleeve. When I turned to him, he looked up and told me, \u201cMy baby is crying because he didn\u2019t come with an on\/off switch!\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-right: 40px; margin-left: 40px; margin-bottom: 10px;\">At the end of his checkup, a 6-year-old was ready to get the vaccines over with. He impatiently looked at me and asked how much longer the nurse would take to come in, saying, \u201cWhere\u2019s the \u2018shotter\u2019?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-right: 40px; margin-left: 40px; margin-bottom: 10px;\">After her visit, one 7-year-old girl asked me, \u201cCan I come back here to have a playdate with you?\u201d Aw shucks!<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-right: 40px; margin-left: 40px; margin-bottom: 10px;\">Me to an almost 4-year-old: \u201cHow long have you felt sick?\u201d Her: \u201cSo I feel good. I just wanted to come play with you.\u201d Her mom confirmed this. &#x1f602;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-right: 40px; margin-left: 40px; margin-bottom: 10px;\">A 7-year-old girl (named something close to Maria Davis) said, \u201cWhy are my initials on your coat?\u201d Her pediatrician: \u201cHuh?\u201d Girl: \u201cM.D.\u201d Pediatrician: \u201cOh, it stands for medical doctor!\u201d Girl: \u201cI thought it stood for me. So if I go to school like you I\u2019ll be M.D. M.D.!\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-right: 40px; margin-left: 40px; margin-bottom: 10px;\">A 6-year-old asked, \u201cHad they invented science back when you were a kid?\u201d Hmmmm.<\/p>\n<p>Then there were a few kids who said things I just had no answer for:<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-right: 40px; margin-left: 40px; margin-bottom: 10px;\">Thinking the answer would be Fluffy, Snuggles, or something like that, I asked one girl, \u201cWhat\u2019s your stuffed rabbit\u2019s name?\u201d \u201cBunny-BUTT.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-right: 40px; margin-left: 40px; margin-bottom: 10px;\">After doing a physical exam on an 8-year-old girl, I asked if she had anything she wanted to talk about? \u201cYes!\u201d she said \u2013 \u201cI really hope that my brother doesn\u2019t get pregnant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And combining the best parts of my job \u2013 giggles and stickers \u2013 there were these fun kids:<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-right: 40px; margin-left: 40px; margin-bottom: 10px;\">A 6-year-old girl wisely said we need stickers for the moms.
