The news is so full of nutritional advice it can seem impossible to know what to feed your kids to keep them healthy!<\/p>\n<p>Sugar should be avoided. Fiber\u00a0is fantastic for preventing constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, and is linked to a reduction in colon cancer. Blueberries and walnuts have antioxidants, salmon and tuna have vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids. Too much tuna has too much mercury. Too much cow\u2019s milk can lead to iron-deficiency anemia. Too much soy milk is risky as well. How does a parent put all of this advice into action?<\/p>\n<p>My patients\u2019 parents often ask questions about nutrition. Parents may worry their kids are too picky or not growing well. They\u2019ve heard about the obesity epidemic and want to protect their family. We all want to send our kids to school with the healthiest start possible to their day, but how?<\/p>\n<p>In my conversations with parents, I find myself repeating the same things about these issues. We could call these 10 tidbits of advice, <em>nutritional sound bites<\/em>, pun intended.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Ten nutritional tips for feeding kids:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/kpthrivingfamilies.org\/pediatricsblog\/make-snacks-count-how-to-use-snacks-to-keep-your-kids-healthy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Make snacks count.<\/strong><\/a> They\u2019re a great way to sneak in healthy foods.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/kpthrivingfamilies.org\/pediatricsblog\/healthy-meals-kids-serve-choose\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>You serve, they choose.<\/strong><\/a> Offer healthy choices then sit back and let kids control which they eat.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/kpthrivingfamilies.org\/pediatricsblog\/cool-cowboys-eat-yogurt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Limit drinks that taste sweet.<\/strong><\/a> Make water the daily drink \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/kpthrivingfamilies.org\/pediatricsblog\/juice-for-kids-9-things-to-know\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">juice<\/a> and soda the occasional treat.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/kpthrivingfamilies.org\/pediatricsblog\/feeding-a-picky-eater-dont-worry-too-much\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Don\u2019t worry.<\/strong><\/a> Ask your pediatrician if you should be concerned about your child\u2019s weight. If not, relax and know that children are built for success!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Don\u2019t be a short-order chef. <\/strong>As often as possible, cook one meal for your family and don\u2019t cater to individual requests.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Go with their strong suits <\/strong>\u2013 <strong>average nutrition over a week or month.<\/strong> If they like carrots and strawberries \u2013 feed a lot of carrots and strawberries.
